People who lost their loved ones in the tsunami gathered at memorial sites and at cemeteries to remember the dead.
The Government also organised events to mark the 14th anniversary since the tsunami.
The main event was held in Pereliya where the tsunami waves crashed into a train killing over 1500 people.
The December 2004 tsunami killed around 30,000 people and left over 900,000 homeless in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
