Government condemns attack on Buddha statues in Mawanella

The Government today condemned the attacks on Buddha statues in Mawanella.

Minister and United National Party (UNP) Chairman Kabir Hashim said that two suspects had already been arrested over the incident.

“I condemn the recent acts of violence committed against places of worship in Mawanella.
As soon as I heard about the recent attacks I instructed the police to investigate and arrest those responsible.?The two suspects have since been apprehended by the authorities and will be subject to the full extent of the law,” he said.

Advisory committee appointed to protect archaeological sites

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today appointed an Archaeology Advisory committee to protect sites with archaeological importance in Sri Lanka.
