UPFA wins the East but loses seats

The United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) won the elections in the eastern province, but by just a small margin. Final results released by the department of elections shows that the UPFA had secured 14 seats including two bonus seats by winning 31.58 percent of the total votes. Parents abandon two children

The Pamanugama police had found two young children abandoned by their parents at their house, the police media unit said today. Aged 6 and 2 years old, the two children had been found abandoned on Friday following information received by the police. The police took the 6 year old boy and 2 year old girl into their care and lodged a report at the Wattala Magistrate?s court. UNP backs TNA, SLMC support sought

The United National Party (UNP) has decided to support the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to form a government in the eastern province. TNA MP Suresh Premachandran said that his party has now sought the support of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) to garner the majority it needs to govern the eastern province. “We reached the agreement with the UNP today.
