PPF condemns incident at Lake House

The Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), in a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena, has expressed concern over the disruptive incident taken place at the Lake House.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali has condemned this incident and termed it an attack on media organizations. PPF also called on the authorities to immediately investigate the matter.

According to Free Media Movement (FMM), on December 13th a group of United National Party (UNP) supporters gathered outside the Lake House after the Supreme Court?s decision on the dissolution of Parliament.

After the verdict of October 26, the tense situation regarding the democracy and media freedom has been ended in the country. (Colombo Gazette)

Madagascar woman attacks Indian at Mirihana detention facility

A Madagascar woman has been arrested after she attacked an Indian woman at the Mirihana detention facility. Police Spokesman, Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that the 29-year-old woman from Madagascar had assaulted the 26-year-old Indian woman. The incident had taken place inside the Mirihana detention facility where both women have been detained for violating local visa laws. Validity period of visas obtained by foreigners in Sri Lanka extended

The validity period of all types of visas currently by foreigners currently residing in Sri Lanka has been extended by 30 days from 08th August 2021 to 07th September 2021, the Department of Immigration and Emigration said.
