Sri Lankans arrested in Indonesia

The Indonesian navy arrested 17 Sri Lankans when they were heading to Christmas Island on a ship illegally to seek asylum. According to the Indonesian media, the Sri Lankans were arrested in Southwest Sumatra yesterday and were taken for questioning today. Assistance has been sough from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to deal with the illegal asylum seekers.

Increased safety measures for Colombo night race

Increased safety measures will be in place for the spectators and participants at the Colombo Night Race next month, organizers said today. The Colombo Night Race will be held at Fort on Saturday December 15th with the qualifying rounds the previous night. The police have sought details from Kotte mayor Janaka Ranawaka over a statement he had made to the media alleging that corrupt police officers were the cause for the incident at the Welikada prison.
