President Maithripala Sirisena has told the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) that he will take the next course of action in 24 hours as a result of the Court of Appeal ruling today.
A TNA delegation met the President today for talks, which was to mostly focus on the political prisoner issue.
The TNA media unit tweeted saying at the meeting the President admitted there was no Prime Minister or cabinet following the court order.
He said that he will take action in 24 hours and also meet with the National Security Council and other relevant officials.
The Appeal Court issued notice and an interim order today against Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Government, preventing them from acting as Prime Minister, Cabinet and Deputy Ministers.
The order was issued in a Quo Warranto case filed by 122 Parliamentarians against Rajapaksa and his new Government.
The Court of Appeal ordered 49 members of the new cabinet to appear in court on December 12th to respond to the petition.
However, Rajapaksa rejected the Court of Appeal ruling on his cabinet and has decided to challenge it in the Supreme Court.
Rajapaksa’s office said that his lawyers will file the appeal first thing tomorrow morning. (Colombo Gazette)
