Mahinda rejects ruling, to appeal before Supreme Court

Parliamentarian Mahinda Rajapaksa has rejected a Court of Appeal ruling on his cabinet and has decided to challenge it in the Supreme Court.

Rajapaksa’s office said that his lawyers will file the appeal first thing tomorrow morning.

The?Appeal Court has issued notice and an interim order against Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Government, preventing them from acting as Prime Minister, Cabinet and Deputy Ministers.

The order was issued in a Quo Warranto case filed by 122 Parliamentarians against?Rajapaksa and his new Government.

The respondents were ordered to show by what authority they hold office.

The Court of Appeal ordered 49 members of the new cabinet to appear in court on December 12th to respond to the petition.

Rajapaksa said that only the Supreme Court can make a determination on the Constitution. (Colombo Gazette)

Grace period extended to renew vehicle licence

The Government has extended the grace period announced to renew vehicle revenue licenses in the Western Province. The Government Information Department said the grace period has been extended till 31 July. The grace period will be entitled for vehicle revenue licences that expire between 13 March to 31 July. Colombo stock market records gains for third day

The Colombo stock market recorded gains for a third day today (Friday) during close of trading. The S&P SL20 index moved up by 2.84% while the All Share Price Index (ASPI) went up by 1.04% at the closing of trading today. Daily turnover at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) was recorded as 1.2 billion. The CSE saw gains over the last three says after having some issues when it opened for trading this week. Balance in COVID?19 fund surpasses Rs. 1 billion

The balance in the COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund has reached Rs. 1 billion, the President’s Office said today.
