TNA suspects Karuna and EPDP involved in criminal acts

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) raised suspicions in Parliament today that former LTTE member Karuna Amman and the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) were involved in some criminal incidents in the North and East.

TNA Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran told Parliament today that Karuna Amman’s group was suspected to be behind some recent crimes in Batticaloa.

He also said that the EPDP was suspected to be behind recent attacks in the North.

Sumanthiran said that EPDP leader Douglas Devananda was going around telling people he was back.

The EPDP and the Karuna group was in the past accused of being involved in human rights abuses in the North and East.

The crimes committed by both groups had been listed by the UN as well but both sides denied any involvement.

Karuna Amman was also a member of Parliament when Mahinda Rajapaksa was President.?(Colombo Gazette)

JVP dissident leader found

JVP dissident leader Premkumar Gunaratnam alias Noel Mudalige has been found after being reported missing since last weekend. CBK says India’s vote not a let down

Former Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga does not share the view that India’s vote against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council was a “let down” as she feels that there must have been “justifiable reasons” for the decision. 66-year-old Kumaratunga, who ruled Sri Lanka for 11 years from 1994, also accused the Mahinda Rajapaksa Government of not fulfilling the promises made to India and other “friendly countries” with regard to addressing the political grievances of minority Tamils.
