Despite objections 7000 Samurdhi officers made permanent

Despite objections raised in Parliament today, President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over permanent appointment letters to 7,000 Samurdhi officers.

The letters were handed over at a ceremony held at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

In Parliament today, former Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera raised concerns with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya over the move to hand over the appointment letters since the new Government has been found to be illegal by Parliament.

However the appointment letters were handed over to the 7,000 Samurdhi officers today at the ceremony this evening.

Speaking at the event, President Maithripala Sirisena said that the political issue is politics and politicians will resolve it.

He urged state officers to do their job and ensure the public are not affected. (Colombo Gazette)
