Following a meeting held between President Maithripala Sirisena and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today, the President has decided to meet opposition leader R. Sampanthan and United National Front (UNF) leaders tomorrow to discuss a solution to the political crisis.
The Speaker’s office said that Jayasuriya met the President on a request made by some Parliamentarians.
In Parliament today Minister of Education and Higher Education Wijeyadasa Rajapaksha urged Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to meet the President and others and seek a solution to the crisis.
The Speaker’s office said that Jayasuriya met the President this evening and briefed him on the negative impact the political crisis is having on the country.
According to the Speaker’s office, the President gave a positive response to the concerns raised by the Speaker.
President Maithripala Sirisena had later said he will meet opposition leader R. Sampanthan and United National Front (UNF) leaders separately tomorrow and look to resolve the crisis. (Colombo Gazette)
