UNF, SLMC seek order on media not to recognise new cabinet

The United National Front (UNF) and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) today sought an order from Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on the media not to recognise the new cabinet.

SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem said that the electronic and print media continue to recognize the new cabinet and also recognise Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister.

He urged the Speaker to issue an order to the media not to give recognition to an illegal cabinet.

Hakeem said that since the Speaker has already ruled there is no Prime Minister or cabinet in Parliament the media must accept that ruling.

UNF Parliamentarian Karunaratne Paranavitana said that the media and some state officials are giving recognition to a cabinet which does not exist.

He also said that state media are giving publicity to the “illegal cabinet” instead of Parliament sessions when Parliament meets. (Colombo Gazette)
