Former Northern Provincial Council member M.K. Sivajilingham was arrested today when he attempted to commemorate the birth anniversary of slain LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabakaran.
Sivajilingham was released after being questioned by the Police.
Meanwhile, events were held in the North today in support of Prabakaran.
Celebrations were held at the Jaffna University as well as at other locations.
Heavy Police security was reported in the North to prevent pro-LTTE events from taking place.
The LTTE remains a banned terrorist organisation in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
