England slump to 336 as Sandakan, Perera strike early

England lost their last three wickets in a hurry on the second morning of the third cricket Test against Sri Lanka to be bowled out for 336 in Colombo.

The tourists resumed on 7-312 but lasted just under 25 minutes in the opening session.

Things started promisingly with three fours in the first two overs but Moeen Ali’s dicey innings ended on 33 when he lofted Dilruwan Perera down the ground to Angelo Mathews.

Stuart Broad was bowled round his legs for a duck, becoming Lakshan Sandakan’s fifth victim of the innings, and Jack Leach (2) fell to a brilliant over-the-shoulder catch from Mathews after charging Perera.

Jonny Bairstow top scored with 110 in his comeback to Test cricket following injury while allrounder Ben Stokes made 57. (Courtesy AAP)
