Speaker appoints PSC members, UPFA objects

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today appointed 12 members to the Parliament Selection Committee (PSC) which included five members of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

The Speaker also named five members from the United National Front (UPF) and one each from the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and one from the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).

Jayasuriya named MPs Dinesh Gunawardena, S.B. Dissanayake, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Samarasinghe and Wimal Weerawansa from the UPFA to the PSC.

He also named MPs Lakshman Kiriella, Rauff Hakeem, Rishad Bathidudeen, Mano Ganesan and Patali Champika Ranawaka from the UPFA to the PSC.

The Speaker also named MP Mavai Senathirajah from the TNA (ITAK) and Vijitha Herath from the JVP to the PSC.

The UPFA however objected to the nominations saying it wants seven members in the PSC. (Colombo Gazette)
