West Indies name Nic Pothas interim coach

West Indies fielding coach Nic Pothas has been appointed interim coach for the tour of Bangladesh, following the resignation of full-time coach Stuart Law last month during the tour of India.

“Having Nic lead the team at this juncture is important for continuity and we look forward to strong and positive performances from the squad under his leadership,” said Jimmy Adams, the director of Windies Cricket.

Added Pothas: ”It is an honour to be asked to be the head coach of the West Indies Cricket team for the immediate future. The Bangladesh series will be a tough challenge which we look forward to embracing.”

This is the second time that the former South African wicketkeeper-batsman has served as interim coach of an international cricket team. In mid-2017 he was named interim coach of Sri Lanka after Graham Ford prematurely ended his contract. At the time, Pothas was serving as Sri Lanka’s fielding coach.

He resigned from the role in April and was subsequently appointed fielding coach for West Indies.
