Speaker will not to recognise cabinet

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has decided not to recognise the new cabinet in Parliament.

He said that he will not recognise Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister in Parliament as he lost a no-confidence vote yesterday.

During Parliament sittings today the Speaker referred to Rajapaksa as an MP and not Prime Minister.

A motion with the signatures of 122 MPs out of the 225 member Parliament was submitted to the Speaker yesterday saying they had no confidence in Rajapaksa and his cabinet. (Colombo Gazette)
