Government rejects Speaker’s ruling

The Government has rejected Speaker Karu Jayasuriya’s ruling that it does not have the support of Parliament to continue in office.

Housing Minister Wimal Weerawansa told reporters the floor test in Parliament was illegal and so Mahinda Rajapaksa will continue as Prime Minister while the Government led by Rajapaksa will continue in office.

Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that the Speaker had violated Parliament standing orders when he took the floor test.

He said that the Speaker had conducted part of the sittings without the Mace in place, which is illegal.

Rosy objects to using the name “Hellfire” for Colombo gig

Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake has objected to the name “Hellfire” being used for a music festival to be held near the Lotus Tower. The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has given approval for the concert to be held tomorrow (Friday) but has instructed the organisers not to display the name “Hellfire”.
