US, UK raise concerns on dissolving Parliament in Sri Lanka

The United States and the UK have raised concerns over the decision taken by President Maithripala Sirisena to dissolve Parliament.

The US State Department said that the US is deeply concerned by news the Sri Lanka Parliament will be dissolved, further deepening the political crisis.

“As a committed partner of Sri Lanka, we believe democratic institutions and processes need to be respected to ensure stability and prosperity,” the US State Department said.

The UK Minister of State for Asia and the Pacific Mark Field said that he was concerned by news that Sri Lanka’s Parliament has been dissolved days before it was due to be reconvened.

“As a friend of Sri Lanka, the UK calls on all parties to uphold the constitution and respect democratic institutions and processes,” he said. (Colombo Gazette)

Another 155 Covid related deaths in Sri Lanka

Another 155 Covid related deaths have been reported in Sri Lanka. The Health Ministry said that the 155 deaths had occurred yesterday (Thursday) and were confirmed today (Friday). The latest victims include 111 people over the age of 60 and 41 people between the ages of 30 and 59. There were also 3 females below the age of 30 among the latest victims. The Health Ministry said that the latest deaths included 85 males and 70 females. (Colombo Gazette)

Vaccination card mandatory in public places from 15th September

The vaccination card (fully vaccinated) has been made mandatory when entering public places from 15th September. Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Army Commander, General Shavendra Silva said that the vaccination card will also be mandatory in places like hotels and restaurants. Persons without vaccination cards, confirming that they have received both doses of the vaccine, will not be allowed to enter public places.? (Colombo Gazette)
