Chennai bound flights diverted to Colombo owing to storm

Some Chennai bound passenger flights were diverted to Colombo today owing to a storm in the Tamil Nadu area. A Srilankan Airlines flight on its way to Chenai returned to Katunayake while a flight heading to Chennai from Dubai also landed in Katunayake this morning. Srilankan Airlines said that all Chennai bound flights were cancelled today owing to the storm. (Colombo Gazette)

Navy removes protesters at Hambantota port

The Navy today removed employees of the Hambantota port who had been protesting against the agreement signed between a Chinese company and the Government. A tense situation arose when the Navy attempted to remove the protesters who were blocking operations at the port. Ships were prevented from entering and leaving the port by the protesters.
