Chinese submarines will not be allowed to dock in Sri Lanka, newly appointed Foreign Minister Sarath Amunugama said.
He told India Today that just because Sri Lanka takes loans from China it does not mean Sri Lanka will subscribe to their strategic interests.
“No Chinese submarines can dock here. Sri Lanka will protect its sovereignty. Just because we take loans from China does not mean we will subscribe to their strategic interest,” Foreign Affairs Editor at India Today, Geeta Mohan, tweeted quoting the Minister.
He also said that Sri Lanka cannot compromise its sovereignty and its deals with China are for commercial purposes.
“These are commercial operations done on the basis of detailed feasibility study. Is a win-win situation.Take Hambantota port for e.g. It is clearly a Lankan operation,” he said. (Colombo Gazette)
