United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Manusha Nanayakkara resigned from his Deputy Minister post in the Government today.
He said that he resigned as he could not agree with the decision taken by President Maithripala Sirisena to prorogue Parliament and appoint a new Government.
Nanayakkara, who met United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today, noted that the international community and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya have not supported the political moves of the President.
He said that as someone who stands for democracy, he will now begin a fight to ensure democracy is protected in Sri Lanka.
In his resignation letter, Nanayakkara said that he feels Wickremesinghe is the legitimate Prime Minister and so will support him. (Colombo Gazette)
