Parliamentarian, the venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero has decided to support the caretaker Government including the appointment of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister.
The venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero said that he feels the appointment of Rajapaksa is Constitutional.
The monk said that the coalition Government was formed between the United National Party and the United People’s Freedom Alliance.
He said that when one party resigns the Government is dissolved.
The venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero said that he will continue to sit as an independent MP in Parliament but will support the caretaker Government.
He said that he had urged the President to have the caretaker Government in place for three months and then go for elections. (Colombo Gazette)
