Ranil’s security slashed by IGP

The security of United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has been slashed.

Wickremesinghe had around 1008 security officers.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara has issued instructions to provide only 10 Special Task Force (STF) officers to Wickremesinghe and remove the remaining officers.

The UNP says the order has come to the IGP from the President and he has been instructed to implement the order with immediate effect.

The IGP has in turn informed the relevant Police divisions on the steps to be taken to reduce Wickremesinghe’s security on the basis that Wickremesinghe is no more the Prime Minister. (Colombo Gazette)
