Statements recorded from 47 Police officers

Statements have been recorded from 47 Police officers?over the alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and other VVIPs, the Police said today.

The Police said that the?Criminal Investigations Department has recorded statements from two Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) over the alleged plot.

The Police said that?89 people have so far been questioned over the plot and this includes? 47 policemen.

Brit and Italian arrested in Kandy for violating visa regulations

A British national and an Italian have been arrested in Kandy for violating local visa regulations. The Police said the foreigners were arrested by the Kandy Tourist Police unit. According to the Police, the two foreigners had violated the immigration and emigration regulations. The foreigners are aged 22 and 32. Further investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)

Sixteen Indian fishermen arrested in Sri Lankan waters

Sixteen Indian fishermen were arrested and two boats were seized in Sri Lankan waters, the Navy said on Thursday. A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy led to two Indian fishing boats being seized and 16 Indian fishermen being arrested for poaching off the Kachchativu Island, Jaffna. The Navy said it continues to conduct regular patrols and operations in Sri Lankan waters to curb illegal fishing practices of foreign fishing boats, taking into account the impact of those practices
