Thailand, Lanka to enhance maritime security

Thailand and Sri Lanka held bilateral talks today when the Prime Minister of Thailand?Yingluck Shinawatra met President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential?Secretariat. The visiting Thai Premier also?addressed?the Parliament at a special?session, the President’s office said. The two leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in defense and maritime security. President Rajapaksa said sharing experiences and expertise will contribute to eradicating terrorism and other security threats in the region.

Southwest monsoon causing strong winds

The Department of Meteorology said that?Southwestern monsoonal winds over the island will be strengthen at times today. It said that due to the convergence of South-westerly wind flow Showers or thundershowers will occur over Southern half of the country. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces. Showers may extend to Puttalam, Kurunegala, Matale and Batticaloa districts too. At least 11 injured in Maskeliya

At least 11 people including several children were injured following an accident in Maskeliya today. The police said that a private bus travelling to Maskeliya from Swamimalai went down a precipice with the passengers. The police said that 11 people who were in the bus were injured in the accident. Children going to school were among those injured.
