Sri Lanka condoles with India over Punjab tragedy

Sri Lanka today expressed its condolences with India over the loss of lives following a?train accident that took place yesterday in Amritsar, Punjab.

President Maithripala Sirisena expressed deep sadness over the tragic loss of lives and injury to many, following?the unfortunate train accident that took place yesterday in Amritsar, Punjab.

He said that Sri Lanka stands in solidarity with the people of India at this time of difficulty and, our thoughts and prayers are with those affected.

At least 60 people were killed and 72 injured after a train ran into crowds at Joda Phatak crossing in Amritsar where a large number of people had gathered to watch Ravan effigy burning on Friday evening. (Colombo Gazette)

State Minister Nimal Lanza warns his colleagues

State Minister Nimal Lanza today warned his colleagues in the Government saying he is prepared to respond if they continue to attack him. Lanza told Parliament that some Ministers and MPs have been attacking him over the past few weeks. The State Minister also said that he has written to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa raising some concerns. He said that the concerns were with regards to some issues in his Ministry.
