Shantha Bandara to fill vacant seat in Parliament

Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Youth Wing President Shantha Bandara is to fill the seat in Parliament made vacant following the death of UPFA Parliamentarian Salinda Dissanayake. Bandara, a National List MP, had in January filled the vacancy created by the resignation of M L A M Hizbullah when Hizbullah was appointed as the Eastern Province Governor. Police fire tear gas and water cannons on protest

The Police fired tear gas and water cannons on a protest at Lotus Road in Colombo today. The protest was staged by students following the Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA) course. Lotus Road had to be temporarily closed for traffic as a result of the protest. The Police later used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protesters.
