Supreme Court judge Nalin Perera sworn in as new Chief Justice

Senior Supreme Court Justice Nalin Perera took oaths as the new Chief Justice before President Maithripala Sirisena at the President?s Official Residence, today.

He was nominated by President Maithripala Sirisena to the Constitutional Council for post of Chief Justice on the retirement of Justice Priyasath Depp.

Nalin Perera joined the judicial service as a magistrate and was gradually promoted to a Supreme Court judge.

Individual shot dead in Katunayake

An individual was shot dead in Katunayake last night, the Police media unit said today. The Police said that a 38 year-old man was was shot at in the Minuwangoda area in Katunayake. He was pronounced dead on admission to the Negombo hospital. The victim had been returning home when he was shot at by two suspects over a private dispute. Number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka rises to 935

The number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka rose to 935 today. The Ministry of Health said that 10 more patients were detected with the coronavirus today (Friday). Of the 10 detected nine are members of the Sri Lanka Navy and one a relative of a Navy officer. The Ministry of Health said that there are currently 449 active coronavirus patients in Sri Lanka.
