Constitutional Council approves President’s nomination for CJ

The Constitutional Council (CC) has approved the nomination made by President Maithripala Sirisena to be appointed as the new Chief Justice.

The Speaker’s office said that the Constitutional Council met this afternoon and discussed the nomination made by the President.

The President had nominated Supreme Court Judge Nalin Perera to be appointed as the new Chief Justice from today after the former Chief Justice retired.

The Constitutional Council decided to approve the nomination and inform the President. (Colombo Gazette)
