The United National Party (UNP) says the Government has no mandate to form a coalition with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
Leader of the House and UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella told Parliament today that the mandate given by the public at the 2015 election was to form a unity Government of good governance.
He said that the public had not given the Government a mandate to work with a group of people who had been rejected at the last election.
Kiriella was responding to reports that President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had met last week and discussed forming a caretaker Government. (Colombo Gazette)
