Maldivians in Sri Lanka cast votes at Presidential polls

Hundreds of Maldivians in Sri Lanka cast their votes at the Maldives Presidential elections in Colombo today.

A polling booth was set up at the Maldives Embassy in Colombo where the Maldivians cast their votes.

The battle at the election is between incumbent President Abdulla Yameen and joint opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Most international monitoring agencies including the UN and EU monitors have refused to monitor the elections saying the process ahead of the election was flawed and so they had no faith in the election itself.

The Elections Commission of Maldives however said that?38 delegates from 11 international organizations and a total of 26 media representatives from 14 media institutions monitored the elections.

Among the international election observers were two members of the Sri Lankan elections commission.

The Commission received a total of 37 applications as international monitors from which 11 were rejected due to insufficient documents.

Sri Lanka to receive 78,000 Pfizer vaccine jabs in July

Sri Lanka is to receive 78,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine in July, the Government said today. State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Channa Jayasumana said that the 78,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will arrive during the first three weeks of July. The Government had announced earlier this month that it will import 05 million doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine this year. Another 71 Covid related deaths confirmed in Sri Lanka

Another 71 Covid related deaths have been confirmed in Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Health said today. The Ministry of Health said that the 71 includes 38 females and 33 males. The deaths had occurred yesterday (21st) and were confirmed today. The latest victims includes 57 people above the age of 60, as well as 13 between the ages of 30 and 59 and 1 person below 30.
