One soldier killed, 18 injured

A soldier was killed and 18 others were injured following an accident in Chetikkulam this morning. The police said that the soldiers were travelling in a truck when the accident took place. The truck had lost control and overturned killing the soldier and injuring the others. According to the police, the soldiers are attached to the Chetikkulam rehabilitation camp. The injured soldiers were admitted to hospital.

Australia passes new boat people law

Australian senate today adopted a controversial amendment to the ‘Migration Act’, allowing people who arrive by boat to be processed at offshore facilities on Nauru and Papua New Guinea’s Manus Island. Sri Lanka-US migrant smuggling ring busted
