Mangala accuses Cardinal of fanning flames of hatred

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera today accused Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith of fanning the flames of hatred. Samaraweera tweeted saying Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith was fanning the flames of hatred and communism by visiting fasting monk the Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero. Police gives ethnic breakdown of recent arrests

The Police today took an unusual step of announcing the ethnicity of several suspects arrested following the Easter Sunday attacks. Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said that over 2000 suspects were arrested over the Easter Sunday attacks, search operations and mob violence which followed. He said that 2289 people were arrested and among them are 330 Sinhalese, 139 Tamils and 1820 Muslims. The Police spokesman said that of those arrested, 423 suspects have been remanded.
