Colombo partially shuts down as thousands attend JO protest

Colombo partially shut down today as the joint opposition staged a massive protest march against the Government.

Some roads were partially closed while most offices in the Pettah area closed early as a result of the protest.

Several children did not attend school in Colombo while most other activities also came to a standstill.

The protesters converged near Lake House from different parts of the country in buses and attended the protest walk.

Police and Special Task Force (STF) members were deployed in key areas in Colombo to ensure there was no violence.

Special security was also provided to the President’s house, Temple Trees and Parliament.

Traffic blocks were reported in parts of Colombo where the protest march took place.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa were among those who attended the protest walk. (Colombo Gazette)
