Police placed on alert for mass joint opposition protest

The Police have been placed on alert at several locations in Colombo for the mass joint opposition protest.

Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that existing laws will be used to protect key locations during the protest.

He said that there was no attempt by the Police to stop a peaceful protest from being staged tomorrow.

However he said that steps will be taken to protect public property during the protest.

Law and Order Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that there was information some elements may attempt to disrupt proceedings at the Special Courts and Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) during the protest today.

He said that steps will be taken to protect those locations and documents pertaining to ongoing investigations into major financial crimes. (Colombo Gazette)
