Twelve arrested over assault on Wildlife Department officers

Twelve people have been arrested over an assault on Wildlife Department officers at the Minneriya National Park.

Among those arrested is a member of the Hingurakgoda Pradeshiya Sabha.

They were produced in court and remanded till September 11.

The Minneriya National Park was temporarily closed on Monday following a clash between wildlife officers and another group and was reopened yesterday.

The clash took place after a suspect was arrested over illegal fishing within the park premises.

A group of men had attacked officers of the?Wildlife Conservation Department following the arrest.

Six officers of the Wildlife Conservation Department were admitted to hospital following the incident.?(Colombo Gazette)

Gotabaya officially informs Ranil he is resigning

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has officially informed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he is resigning from his post. The Prime Minister’s media unit said that the President had told the Prime Minister he will be resigning as previously announced.
