Eight Indian fishermen arrested for poaching in Lankan waters

Eight Indian fishermen were arrested for poaching in Sri Lankan waters, the Navy media unit said.

The Navy said that the trawler used by the fishermen was also seized.

The fishermen were arrested yesterday by the Navy attached to the Western Naval Command in the seas, 16 nautical miles off the Arippu area.

Subsequently, the Indian fishermen and the trawler were brought to the Navy base SLNS Vijaya and were handed over to the Puttalam, Assistant Director of Fisheries for onward action. (Colombo Gazette)
