Police fire tear gas and water cannons on protest at Town Hall

The?Police fired tear gas and water cannons on a protest by university students at Town Hall today.

The Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) staged the protest in Colombo today after receiving court approval.

The Fort Magistrate issued an order allowing the students to protest without inconveniencing the public.

The court ordered the students not to damage any public property or create public disturbance during the protest.

However the protest resulted in some roads being closed for traffic.

The?Police fired tear gas and water cannons on the students at Town Hall and later again in the same area as the students resumed the protest.?(Colombo Gazette)
