Former Indian PM helped Sri Lanka fight LTTE sea tigers

Former Indian Prime Minister, the late?Atal Bihari Vajpayee, helped Sri Lanka fight the LTTE sea tigers, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said today.

Speaking to reporters after signing the condolence book for the late Indian Prime Minister in Colombo,?Wickremesinghe said that the LTTE was a very strong unit when he was Prime Minister at the time of the war in Sri Lanka.

Wickremesinghe said that the military had suffered a severe setback in Jaffna then and Sri Lanka’s economy was in a poor state.

Wickremesinghe noted that?Atal Bihari Vajpayee had then offered assistance to Sri Lanka by giving training to the military and and also help stop the?LTTE sea tigers.

The Prime Minister said that?Vajpayee had placed a lot of focus on Sri Lanka and this helped Sri Lanka at that time. (Colombo Gazette)
