File pic A balcony has collapsed in Kandy yesterday injuring 23 people, the police media unit said this morning. The police said that the accident took place when a large crowd had gathered to participate at an event at the Sri Muthumari ?Amman Temple. Some of those who had gathered for the event had got on the balcony of an adjoining house. Wasp attack injures over 40

Over 40 people were injured following a wasp attack in Sigiriya today, the police said. Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said that between 45-50 people were injured in the attack but no one had sustained any serious injuries. ?There were no foreigners injured in the incident. All were local tourists to the site,? he said. The police spokesman also said that the Sigiriya rock was temporarily closed for visitors following the incident.

One killed, 46 injured in accident

One person was killed and 46 others were injured following an accident in Homagama this morning, the police said. According to the police the accident involved a passenger bus which collided with a lorry in Galegedera, Homagama. The police media unit said that a van which was travelling behind had also then crashed into both vehicles. The injured people were rushed to the Padukka, Homagama, Kalubowila and Homagama hospitals for treatment. The passenger bus was heading to Colombo at the time
