Joint opposition to decide if it will step down from UPFA

The joint opposition will decide if it will step down from the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and sit independently in Parliament.

At meeting with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa today it was decided that a committee will be appointed to decide the next course of action to be taken by the joint opposition.

Most joint opposition members were elected to Parliament through the UPFA.

However the joint opposition wants the opposition leader to be a man from the joint opposition.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has however refused to remove the current opposition leader, R. Sampantha. (Colombo Gazette)
