Report on VIjayakala’s speech handed over to the AG

A report on the controversial speech made by former State Minister?Vijayakala Maheswaran has been handed over to the?Attorney General?s (AG) Department.

The Organised Crimes Prevention Division (OCPD) informed court today that it had concluded conducting inquiries into the speech made by the former Minister.

Court was informed that a report on the findings has been handed over to the AG for the next course of action.

The OCPD, last month, recorded a statement from former Maheswaran over the speech she had made recently.

In her recent speech,?Maheswaren had said that there was a need for the LTTE to be in control in the North and East to prevent crimes from taking place.

Following an uproar over the speech,?Maheswaren resigned from her Government post.?(Colombo Gazette)

Government seeks IMF assistance to deal with crisis

The Sri Lanka Government has sough the assistance of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to deal with the economic crisis. Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that an IMF delegation is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka for talks. The Government had earlier said it is unlikely to seek a bailout from the IMF.
