Youth detained for stealing Magistrate’s vehicle

A youth accused of locking up a Magistrate at his residence in Piliyandala and stealing his car, has been arrested. The suspect had committed the crime on Saturday and was arrested in Wattala, the Police said today. The suspect had reportedly visited the residence of the Magistrate claiming he wants to rent the house. However, the suspect locked the Magistrate inside and stole his car. (Colombo Gazette)

Cabinet approves President’s proposal for relief measures

The Cabinet today (13) approved a proposal submitted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe aimed at reducing the difficulties faced by the public and providing immediate relief in the face of the current economic crisis. Issuing passports temporarily suspended

The Department of Immigration and Emigration has temporarily suspended issuing passports owing to a technical issue. The Immigration and Emigration Department said that a technical issue in the computer system has forced the issuing of passports to be temporarily suspended. As a result appointments for passports scheduled for tomorrow (February 14) have been rescheduled for 15th February. Appointments on other days have been shifted to a day later, until 17th February.
