Navy detains 21 Sri Lankan illegal immigrants at sea

The Navy detained 21 Sri Lankan illegal immigrants at sea while they were heading to a foreign country.

According to the Navy media unit, a Navy Fast Attack Craft on a routine patrol detained 21 people onboard a suspicious trawler along the Exclusive Economic Zone of Sri Lanka yesterday, about 117 nautical miles off Chilaw.

Among those arrested were 19 men and two women.

The illegal immigrants were brought to the Colombo harbour and handed over to the Harbour Police, Colombo for onward action, after administrating them with first aid and other medical treatment. (Colombo Gazette)
