Sri Lanka in talks with China to tap panda bond market

Sri Lanka is in talks with China to tap the panda bond market, Central Bank Governor Dr Indrajit Coomaraswamy said.

Speaking at a media briefing today,?Coomaraswamy said that the?Central Bank of Sri Lanka had talks with the People’s Bank of China on the?panda bond.

He said that?the People’s Bank of China had proposed to Sri Lanka that a joint task force be established to examine how Sri Lanka could explore the pand bond market.

Coomaraswamy said that Sri Lanka is looking at approximately USD 250 million from the?pand bond market.

“We are working at finishing that this year,” he said.

Coomaraswamy said that the proposal to examine the?panda bond market arose when Sri Lanka conducted a series of roadshows in China. (Colombo Gazette)
