Palmyrah Fund launched to develop the North and East

The Palmyrah Fund was launched by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today to develop the North and East. Speaking at the launch, the Prime Minister said that the new fund will help expedite the development the North and East. He said that when Parliamentarians submit project proposals for the North and East those proposals will be implemented through the fund. He said that the Finance Ministry has already allocated funds to the Palmyrah Fund and more funds will be allocated during the year.

India’s NIA joins Sri Lanka’s probe into Easter Sunday attacks

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in India has joined the probe into the Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka, India’s Republic TV reported. A team from NIA left earlier this week to assist the Sri Lankan authorities. The mandate of NIA team is to probe the India link in the blasts that were carried out in Sri Lanka. Six-member committee to probe Kurunegala doctor

A six-member committee has been appointed to investigate the allegations against the doctor in Kurunegala. The committee has been appointed by the Ministry of Health and includes doctors specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. The doctor, Seigu Siyabdeen Mohamed Shafi, on suspicion over his assets. It was later revealed that the doctor had performed nearly 8000 illegal sterilization operations.
