Peradeniya university closed for two months following protests

The Peradeniya university has been closed for two months following protests by students.

Officials of the university said that the students had staged a protest over some issues and this had resulted in concerns being raised over the safety of the staff and the students.

According to university officials, the students had been protesting within the university premises posing a threat to the staff and obstructing academic activities in the university.

A concern was also raised over the safety of the students as they had protested along the streets this week in Kandy.

As a result it had been decided to close the university for two months from today and declare holidays.

Students were asked to vacate the university premises by 6.00 pm today. (Colombo Gazette)
