Over 50 skeletal remains unearthed from mass grave in Mannar

Over 50 skeletal remains have been unearthed from a suspected mass grave in Mannar, officials said.

Judicial Medical Officer Dr. S. Rajapaksa said that the skeletal remains of 53 people had been recovered as of yesterday (Wednesday).

The remains had been unearthed from the site of an old CWE building in Mannar.

A few skeletal remains first surfaced in March when construction work was carried out at the site located in the Emil Nagar area in Mannar.

The site was then sealed off and investigations were conducted and subsequently more and more human bones surfaced.

It is however still not clear if the site was an old grave or a crime scene. (Colombo Gazette)
