Transcripts of Vijayakala’s controversial speech sought

The Colombo Chief Magistrate today ordered the?Commissioner of the Department of Official Languages to provide Sinhala and Tamil transcripts of the controversial speech made by former State Minister?Vijayakala Maheswaren.

The Police Organised Crime Prevention Division?(OCPD) had sought a court order to obtain the?transcripts.

The?Colombo Chief Magistrate issued the order after a motion was filed by the?OCPD.

In her recent speech,?Maheswaren had said that there was a need for the LTTE to be in control in the North and East to prevent crimes from taking place.

Following an uproar over the speech,?Maheswaren resigned from her Government post. (Colombo Gazette)

Maharagama cop injured during clash with IUSF

A Police officer attached to the Maharagama Police sustained injuries following a clash with the Inter University Students’ Federation near Parliament yesterday, the Police said today.
