Maldivian Coast Guard vessel arrives in Sri Lanka

Maldivian Coast Guard ship ?Huravee? arrived at the port of Colombo on a goodwill visit today (7th July). The ship was warmly welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval traditions, on her arrival.

Subsequently, the Commanding Officer of the visiting ship Major Mohomed Jamshad and the Defence Attach? of the Embassy of Maldives in Sri Lanka, Colonel Ahamed Ghiyas called on the Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Western Naval Command Headquarters and held cordial discussions. Mementoes were also exchanged to mark this occasion.

The ship is expected to depart the Colombo harbour on the 09^th?of this month after its 3 day official tour of Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)

Veteran journalist Elmo Fernando passed away

Veteran journalist Elmo Fernando passed away at his residence early today. He was 75 years old. Fernando joined the SLBC in 1967 and displayed his talents as a popular announcer, a news caster and a programme producer as well as a news reporter. After leaving the SLBC in 1984, he joined the Veritas which is the catholic radio service of Philippines.
